UI student receives a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award for research to India

Elizabeth (Libby) Lyons is the fourth speaker in the Commitment to Internationalization lecture series. Her talk, "Exploring the Value of Strategic International Science Engagement," will be on Friday, March 30, 2018 at      4:30 p.m. in room 2520D of the University Capitol Centre. This lecture continues the conversation about the UI's vision and strategic themes for campus internationalization.

University of Iowa International Relations major Alex Bare, a Walcott, Iowa native has been awarded a 2018 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).

University of Iowa Political Science major Eli Bratsch-Prince, a native of Ames, Iowa, has been awarded a 2018 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).

University of Iowa student Shane Weitzman spent the summer studying Hindi in Jaipur, India as an awardee of the 2017 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship.

Madeleine Green is the third speaker in the Commitment to Internationalization lecture series. Her talk, "Are We There Yet?:  The Long (and Winding) Road to Global Learning for All," will be on Thursday, November 2, at 4:00 p.m. in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber. This lecture continues the conversation about the UI's vision and strategic themes for campus internationalization.

Argentina calls grad

As an elementary education major with an added endorsement in teaching English as a second language (ESL) and a minor in Spanish, Henry Hartzler envisions his English Teaching Assistantship to the Asturias region of Spain will deepen his ability to work with Spanish-speaking immigrant students in the future. Hartzler, an avid rock climber, also plans to organize an after-school youth climbing club.

English courses that introduced Katherine Will to Spanish literature sparked her interest to develop her writing in two languages. As a language-learning assistant in Argentina, Will plans to use her Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to promote an appreciation for language and dialect diversity.

Samantha Westphal envisions starting a student health club in Argentina with her Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Westphal also plans to promote peace and cultural exchange through education as a teaching assistant at teacher-training colleges.
