Post-election Bangladesh and the future of democracy to be discussed in upcoming UI virtual talk

The University of Iowa will host a virtual conversation on April 9 examining the future of democracy in Bangladesh following the country’s 2026 general election. Bangladeshi anthropologist Rezwana Karim Snigdha will discuss the political transition and the challenges facing vulnerable communities, including women and minorities. The free online event is organized by the South Asian Studies Program in International Programs.

Food, culture, and memory take center stage at upcoming UI symposium

Scholars from across the country will gather at the University of Iowa for a symposium exploring how food connects culture, identity, language, and memory. Hosted by the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, the Food Studies Group, and International Programs, the event examines how food traditions shape communities and how food studies can be used in teaching culture and language. The free, public event requires advance registration.
