Building our Global Community

UI faculty and staff can earn a global certificate through the Building Our Global Community cultural training program. We are celebrating the 20th anniversary in 2024-25 academic year!

International Student and Scholar Services, in conjunction with UI Learning & Development, offer workshops on skills and insights useful to faculty and staff as they seek to educate and serve our international community. Those participants who complete the required introductory course plus their choice of four elective courses will be awarded a global certificate.

ISSS is also available to give presentations on specific topics to departments and programs upon request. If interested please contact brandon-paulson@uiowa.edu.

Center for Teaching

Faculty and instructors may also be interested in programs offered by the Center for Teaching that focus on inclusive teaching and diversity. Staff can provide methods and resources for engaging students across difference, including teaching consultations upon request.

BUILD

As a collaborative initiative of the Diversion of Access, Opportunity, and Diversity, and Learning & Development, along with the contributions of many of our campus thought leaders, BUILD: Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity creates an opportunity for UI faculty and staff to build strategic knowledge and skills to contribute to a welcoming and respectful environment for all. Much of the content in this series is useful when working with international students and scholars.
