24 hours. That’s how fast Daniel Lowe’s life changed in March 2020. Lowe, a graduate of Lancaster University in Lancaster, United Kingdom, who studied abroad at the University of Iowa during the 2019-2020 academic year, found his time at Iowa cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seventeen University of Iowa students and alumni were chosen from about 10,000 Fulbright Award applicants nationwide to serve as representatives of the U.S. State Department to teach English abroad and to undertake public health research and creative writing projects in 16 countries during the 2022-23 academic year.

President of the Society of Black Graduate and Professional Students, college advisor for the Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and soon to be graduate in May 2022 with an MFA in creative writing, fiction. Michaeljulius Idani’s resume is covered with opportunities far and wide that he’s been afforded at the University of Iowa. All of this he has accomplished while conducting international research funded by the Stanley Graduate Award for International Research, an award he received in 2021.
