Upcoming Stanley workshop to be held Jan. 24

International Programs will host their final essay workshop regarding the Stanley Awards for International Research on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, in room 1117 of the University Capitol Centre. The Stanley Undergraduate and Graduate Awards for International Research are given annually to outstanding University of Iowa students for the pursuit of learning activities in international studies and international research/fieldwork. Undergraduates interested in international studies are especially encouraged to attend. This year’s application deadline is February 5, 2018, at 4:30 p.m.

The UI College of Nursing has received a $191,500 alumni donation that will allow the school to launch global health initiatives in Haiti and Swaziland, and provide international study and travel opportunities for nursing students.

Remembering Mary Jo Stanley, friend of International Programs

Mary Jo Stanley passed away on December 14, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 6, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Muscatine. Mary Jo and her husband Dick, who passed away on November 17, 2017, were generous supporters of Hancher Auditorium, the UI College of Engineering, International Programs, and the UI Museum of Art. The Stanley Café at Hancher Auditorium was named in their honor to recognize their giving.

Contemporary African artist Eric Adjetey Anang, internationally renowned for the Ghanaian ‘fantasy coffins’ he and generations before him have created, spent the fall 2017 semester as artist-in-residence at the UI Museum of Art. He joined UI faculty and African art scholars on the December 7 WorldCanvass in a program called “Art & the Afterlife.”
