Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we live our lives; it is everywhere and here to stay.

The University of Iowa is proud to be included on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Students. This marks the fourth consecutive year the university has achieved the elite ranking.

Philip Altbach is the fifth speaker in the Commitment to Internationalization lecture series. His talk, "The Peril and Promise of Internationalization in the Era of Trump, Brexit, and Global Competition," will be on March 11, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. in room 1117 of the University Capitol Centre. This lecture continues the conversation about the UI's vision and strategic themes for campus internationalization.

Getting accepted to the University of Iowa was the beginning of many “firsts” for Ana Arzate and her family. As a first-generation college student, attending college meant taking a new path no one in her family had taken before. As time progressed, she felt ready for another “first”—a summer internship in Paris, France, with IES Internships, made possible with a prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship. She lived with a host family and worked at Archive Valley, a multinational online company that digitally connects people with archive resources from around the world. Arzate experienced living in a major global city, learned to use the Paris Métro, and was immersed in Parisian culture.

The African Studies Program and the Office of Outreach and Engagement invite you to attend a talk from Ohio University Professor Steve Howard entitled "My Daughters are My Writings: the Republican Brotherhood in Sudan and Iowa City." This event will take place on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol Museum.  

When I arrived at the IES Freiburg facility, the program director first greeted me and then asked if my other bags were outside. I explained that those two bags were all I brought. “Ah!” He said, pleased. “An experienced traveler!”

Before you leave for any study abroad program, you’ll be told continually about this thing called “Culture Shock”. Personally, I don’t like that phrase. It sounds like you are going to wake up suddenly in a foreign country and be “shocked” into a panic attack. But, that’s not really how it happens. It’s gradual.
