Divija Sharma, University of Iowa psychology major, spent the first year of her academic experience in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She made the most of her remote learning experience and is thrilled to be on campus this year, involved with student organizations, research, and learning about American football.

International Programs (IP) is proud to announce the opening of a passport office to serve the University of Iowa community and the general public. Conveniently located in 1111 University Capitol Centre, the University of Iowa Passport Office will open its doors on Monday, November 1.

The Engaging Across Cultures certificate program creates an opportunity for University of Iowa graduate and professional students to learn more about fostering an intercultural campus while honing skills that will carry into the future workplace. To earn a certificate, participants must complete the introductory session and two elective sessions. Sessions are offered in the fall and spring semesters with some of the sessions being offered each semester.

The Global Student Award recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who are leaders deeply engaged in international education on campus or abroad. The award was established by UI International Programs and the Division of Student Life in 2019.

Deja Williams (BA journalism and mass communication ’20) reflects on the importance of her global internship in London—an experience that expanded her worldview and opened new doors to professional opportunities, including her current role as public relations coordinator at Cashmere Agency.

The Stanley Undergraduate and Graduate Awards for International Research are given annually to outstanding University of Iowa students for the pursuit of learning activities in international studies and international research/fieldwork. In a two-day conference (November 5th, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and November 6th, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) sponsored by the Korean Foundation and International Programs, the inaugural Korean Studies Research Network (KoRN) Conference aims to bring together scholars and graduate students interested in interdisciplinary research about Korea, serving as a platform to facilitate collaborative and interdisciplinary research among scholars and graduate students in the Midwest.

Shuhui Lin, international student support and engagement coordinator in International Programs and the Division of Student Life, was recently recognized with the University of Iowa Outstanding Staff Award.

On April 29, 2022, the thirteenth Anne Frank Tree will be planted on the northeast corner of the University of Iowa’s Pentacrest. Its arrival is due to the work of Frank scholar and UI German Department faculty member Dr. Kirsten Kumpf Baele.
