Once abroad, you meet countless new friends, learn a completely new culture and time starts to fly. Soon you find yourself cherishing your last months and weeks abroad, wishing you would have had a better idea of what you were getting yourself into. Well, you’re in luck! Here are 5 goals that you should set for yourself during your time abroad!

The University of Iowa is pleased to announce that Leslie Locke, assistant professor in the College of Education at the University of Iowa, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar to Mexico for the 2019-20 academic year. Locke will be co-teaching a course and working on a collaborative research project that centers on the perspectives of public school leaders and teachers regarding their work as educators and serving students and families with the most need. 

Philip Altbach is the fifth speaker in the Commitment to Internationalization lecture series. His talk, "The Peril and Promise of Internationalization in the Era of Trump, Brexit, and Global Competition," will be on March 11, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. in room 1117 of the University Capitol Centre. This lecture continues the conversation about the UI's vision and strategic themes for campus internationalization.

Barbara Okeke is currently conducting important water quality and water behavior research in Romania as part of the Fulbright Program.

UI student Tom Bowman received a Fulbright Grant to travel to Bulgaria to be an English teaching assistant for the next year.

University of Iowa Center for the Book's Lisa Miles took her studies to Indonesia and created an award-winning work of art as a response to her experiences and research abroad.

Chris Orabutt traveled to South Korea two months ago to teach middle school English as part of the Fulbright program.

Grace Coleman, a former UI student, will return to Czechia (formerly the Czech Republic) to teach English at a music conservatory.

Martin Wolgen will return to the country his father left in the 1950s to retrace the history of his religious origins while earning a graduate degree in theology and religious studies.
