On Thursday, March 1, from 5:30-7 p.m., the internationally acclaimed Elias String Quartet will take WorldCanvass inside the process of music-making. In a performance-filled program called Translating Music, members of the quartet and Elizabeth Oakes, director of the University of Iowa String Quartet Residency Program in the School of Music, will discuss what it takes to bring a piece to life by focusing on two themes—nationality in music and storytelling through music. WorldCanvass takes place at MERGE, 136 South Dubuque Street, and the program is free and open to the public. Please come early for a pre-show catered reception from 5-5:30 p.m.

Take the first step to studying abroad! Join UI Study Abroad for a series of information sessions taking place during the week of February 26 at the Iowa Memorial Union. Learn the basics about study abroad and discover what types of programs are offered in each area around the world!

The South Asian Studies Program (SASP) will present a guest seminar by author, filmmaker, and UI alum Jocelyn Cullity from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, in 1100 University Capitol Centre.  The event is free and open to the public.

Study Abroad will host an information session on its popular summer Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Valladolid, Spain, on Wednesday, January 31, from 4-5:30 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre. 

Elle Wignall (B.A. English ’13) studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland, as an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa. After graduation, she returned to Ireland for a nanny position in Cork, Ireland, before returning to Iowa to work as a business communications consultant at Wells Fargo in Des Moines. Below, Wignall reflects on the importance of studying abroad and the long-lasting impact it has had on her life and career.

Study Abroad will host an information session on its summer Irish Writing Program on Monday, February 5, at 1 p.m. and Thursday, February 8, at 1 p.m. in 304 English Philosophy Building (Gerber Lounge). University of Iowa students and non-UI students are welcome to attend. 

Do you want to try cooking Korean food? Learn about Korean culture while making Korean food at one of several cooking classes offered by the King Sejong Institute at the University of Iowa.

We're excited to announce our Study Abroad Bloggers for the spring 2018 semester! These unique individuals were selected from a competitive pool of writers to tell the story of their destination and represent the voice of University of Iowa students while abroad. Throughout the semester, these students will share their experiences through writing and photography to be published weekly here on International Accents. 

The Pomerantz Center will host U.S. State Department Diplomat in Residence for the Midwest Melissa Martinez on Monday, January 29. Martinez will host visiting hours from 3-5 p.m. in room C330 in the Pomerantz Center, where she will be available to meet informally with students and alumni interested in State Department opportunities. Martinez will also give a presentation from 7-8 p.m. in room W207 in the Pappajohn Business Building.
