For the summer and fall 2026 academic sessions, Study Abroad at the University of Iowa awarded more than 70 merit-based scholarships to undergraduate students participating in programs around the world. With support from alumni and donors, these awards help make study abroad more accessible and provide students with the opportunity to engage with new cultures, perspectives, and academic experiences outside the United States.

The Carol A. Snodgrass Scholarship provides scholarships for undergraduate students in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who are studying abroad in Latin America or Spain.

  • Elizabeth Trenhaile, a senior double majoring in journalism and mass communication and English and creative writing, with a minor in Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Barcelona Language & Culture program in Spain.
     

The Joel D. and Sandra Barkan Scholarship is awarded to students who study abroad in non-Western European geographical areas.

  • Reef Persons, a sophomore majoring in anthropology with a minor in African American studies, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Summer in Cape Town program in South Africa.
  • Kaeleen Robinson, a junior majoring in theatre arts with a minor in linguistics and a certificate in Korean studies, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the WorldStrides: Korea University program in South Korea.
     

The Stuart A. Lundquist Memorial Fund Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in French (first preference) or English (second preference) who are studying abroad in France.

  • Anna Ahrens, a senior double majoring in music and French with a minor in history, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the USAC Studies in Pau program in France.
  • Jessica Oboh, a junior majoring in French, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the USAC Studies in Pau program in France.
     

The Bedell World Experience Asia Scholarship will be awarded to eligible undergraduate students wishing to study in a geographical area where Japanese, Chinese, or Korean is the primary language.

  • Haneen Eltyeb, a first-year student with a pharmacy interest, is completing a CIEE internship program in China in summer 2026.
  • Joy Singer, a senior double majoring in English and creative writing and Chinese with a minor in dance, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Shanghai Accelerated Language program in China.
  • Miya Swenson, a senior double majoring in Chinese and translation, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Shanghai Accelerated Language program in China.
     

The Dr. Margaret G. Fox Scholarship is awarded to select undergraduates who intend to study abroad during their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

  • Addy Brody, a first-year student majoring in journalism and mass communication, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.
  • Rebekah Buettner, a sophomore majoring in journalism and mass communication, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIMBA program in Spain.
  • Skylar Hanson, a sophomore majoring in informatics, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Barcelona Language & Culture program in Spain.
  • Amy Hernandez, a junior double majoring in counseling and behavioral health services and psychology, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Wells in Florence program in Italy.
  • Stella Heinzel, a junior double majoring in accounting and marketing, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Wells in Florence program in Italy.
  • Paige Newport, a junior majoring in nursing, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Community, Public Health, and Gerontological Nursing program in the Netherlands.
  • Alea Wolfe, a junior double majoring in therapeutic recreation and psychology, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Child Life Experiential Learning program in South Africa.
     

The Drs. Michael L. and Darlene M. McNulty Scholarship supports undergraduate students studying abroad in programs focused on education and cultural exchange.

  • Sydney Cira-Debban, a junior majoring in elementary education, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ghana Education & Culture program in Ghana.
  • Maya Mascolo, a junior majoring in social work, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ghana Education & Culture program in Ghana.
  • Makayla Navin, a senior majoring in elementary education, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ghana Education & Culture program in Ghana.
     

The R&MJ Stanley Scholarship was established in 2001 by Richard (MS '63) and Mary Jo Stanley, and supports undergraduate study abroad students.

  • Melina Whitacre, a senior double majoring in marketing and management, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the USAC Torino program in Italy.
     

The Richard J. Tyner Scholarship is awarded annually to students in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who are majoring in a world language, international relations, international studies, or political science, and who are studying abroad or completing an international internship through International Programs.

  • Tanvi Khadiya, a senior double majoring in marketing and international studies with a minor in Arabic studies, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the IES Vienna Internship program in Austria.
  • Katelyn Trimble, a junior double majoring in political science and theatre arts, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the IES Freiburg: Politics & Economics program in Germany.
     

The Study Abroad Scholarship offers several merit scholarships for undergraduate students who are studying abroad in various countries.

  • Stella Heinzel, a junior double majoring in accounting and marketing, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Wells in Florence program in Italy.
  • Amy Hernandez, a junior double majoring in counseling and behavioral health services and psychology, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Wells in Florence program in Italy.
     

The Stanley Merit-Based Scholarship is a competitive, merit-based scholarship designed for undergraduate students who will study abroad.

  • Audrey Adams, a senior majoring in screenwriting, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Irish Writing Program in Ireland.
  • Aleece Anglese, a sophomore double majoring in therapeutic recreation and disability studies, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Child Life Experiential Learning program in South Africa.
  • Anna Ahrens, a senior double majoring in music and French, with a minor in history, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the USAC Studies in Pau program in France.
  • Lily Arnold, a sophomore majoring in therapeutic recreation, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Child Life Experiential Learning program in South Africa.
  • Leila Assadi, a senior double majoring in economics and political science, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Seoul Global Internship program in South Korea.
  • Sarah Chen, a senior majoring in public health with a minor in political science and a certificate in human rights, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Taipei Global Internship program in Taiwan.
  • Sadie Crandall, a junior majoring in anthropology with a classical languages minor, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ancient Perspectives program in Greece.
  • Liesel Davis, a sophomore majoring in secondary English education, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Irish Writing Program in Ireland.
  • Sydney Davis, a sophomore triple majoring in English and creative writing, communication studies, and political science and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Irish Writing Program in Ireland.
  • Juliana Epping, a junior double majoring in psychology and criminology, law, and justice, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Anatolia American University program in Greece.
  • Stella Evans, a junior majoring in political science with a minor in business administration, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CEA CAPA Prague Internship program in Czechia.
  • Brenna Gion, a senior majoring in journalism and mass communication, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the USAC Heredia program in Costa Rica.
  • Stefani Haus, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIMBA program in Italy.
  • Lillian Hewitt, a junior majoring in communication studies, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Irish Writing Program in Ireland.
  • Stella Heinzel, a junior double majoring in accounting and marketing, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Wells in Florence program in Italy.
  • Brinn Johnson, a senior majoring in speech and hearing science, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.

  • Kate Meyer, a senior double majoring in industrial engineering and business administration major, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the CIMBA program in Italy.
  • Autumn Mills, a junior double majoring in elementary education and art, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIEE Tokyo Global Internship program in Japan.
  • Kaylee Moeller, a sophomore double majoring in psychology and criminology, law, and justice, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ancient Perspectives program in Greece.
  • Lauren Nemmers, a junior double majoring in exercise science and Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.
  • Hunter Phillips, a sophomore majoring in business, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Introduction to Global Business program in Singapore.
  • Tyler Pittman, a junior majoring in political science, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the IES Internship program in Vienna, Austria.
  • Asa Posey, a junior triple majoring in history, ancient civilizations, and classical languages, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ancient Perspectives program in Greece.
  • Cael Post, a sophomore majoring in business, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the USAC Bilbao program in Spain.
  • Elizabeth Renner, a junior triple majoring in ancient civilization, English and creative writing, and classical languages with a minor in history, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the Iowa Regents in Scotland: University of Edinburgh program in Scotland.
  • Ana Rivera, a junior double majoring in marketing and business analytics and information systems with a minor in Spanish, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the IES Internship program in Barcelona, Spain.
  • Tristan Robert, a junior majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish, a certificate in international business, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the IES Internship program in Barcelona, Spain.
  • Lillian Severson, a senior double majoring in economics and political science, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIS Rome program in Italy.
  • Kendell Sheahan, a sophomore majoring in accounting with a minor in Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.
  • Autumn Spicer, a senior majoring in marketing, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the CIMBA program in Italy.
  • Ian Spry, a senior double majoring in economics and environmental science, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the SIT Iceland Renewable Energy program in Iceland.
  • Rachel Swack, a senior double majoring in English and creative writing and psychology, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Irish Writing Program in Ireland.
  • Maia Tecklenburg, a junior pre-medicine student with a minor in sport and recreation management, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the SIT Kenya Public Health program in Kenya.
  • Aaron Van Heukelom, a sophomore majoring in finance, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Introduction to Global Business program in Singapore.
  • Emily Vitosh, a junior majoring in English and creative writing and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ancient Perspectives program in Greece.
  • Kaitlyn Weibel, a junior majoring in nursing with a minor in gender, women’s, and sexuality studies and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Ancient Perspectives program in Greece.
  • Luciana Woolever, a junior majoring in therapeutic recreation with a minor in psychology, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2026 on the Child Life Experiential Learning program in South Africa.
     

The Naomi Gunderson Scholarship for Foreign Language Study Abroad is awarded to undergraduate students who are committed to developing advanced language proficiency.

  • Kaeleen Robinson, a junior double majoring in theatre arts and linguistics, is studying abroad in fall 2026 on the WorldStrides: Korea University program in South Korea.

 


International Programs (IP) at the University of Iowa (UI) is committed to enriching the global experience of UI students, faculty, staff, and the general public by leading efforts to promote internationally oriented teaching, research, creative work, and community engagement.  IP provides support for international students and scholars, administers scholarships and assistance for students who study, intern, or do research abroad, and provides funding opportunities and grant-writing assistance for faculty engaged in international research. IP shares their stories through various media, and by hosting multiple public engagement activities each year.
