For the summer and fall 2025 academic sessions, Study Abroad at the University of Iowa awarded over 30 merit-based scholarships for students completing study or intern abroad programs. Congratulations to all of the recipients!


The Bedell World Experience Asia Scholarship is available to undergraduate students to study in a geographical area where Japanese, Chinese, or Korean is the primary language.

  • Arieanna Grage, a senior majoring in global health studies with a minor in international studies, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the TEAN South Korea: Korea University program.
  • Alexander Pautz, a junior majoring in international studies with minors in Korean studies and Asian languages and literatures, and an international business certificate, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies program in Japan.


The Carol A. Snodgrass Scholarship provides scholarships for undergraduate students in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who are studying abroad in Latin America or Spain. 

  • Sarah Fournier, a sophomore majoring in communication studies with a minor in art and a nonprofit leadership and philanthropy certificate, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the CIEE Seville Communications, New Media & Journalism program in Spain.
  • Jessica Housour, a senior triple majoring in journalism and mass communications, political science, and Spanish, and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.


The Drs. Michael L. and Darlene M. McNulty Scholarship provides competitive, merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students who study abroad in West Africa.

  • Caroline Keenan, a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in social work and lifestyle medicine, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Senegal: Education & Culture program.
  • Jacob Roth, a senior majoring in enterprise leadership, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Senegal: Education & Culture program.


The Stuart A. Lundquist Memorial Fund Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who is majoring in French (first preference) or English (second preference) and studying abroad in France for at least one semester.

  • Megan Heldt, a senior double majoring in art and English & creative writing with a minor in art history, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the USAC Studies in Pau program in France.
  • Koro Castillo, a senior double majoring in psychology and criminology, law, and justice with a minor in Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the USAC Lyon program in France.


The Naomi Gunderson Scholarship for Foreign Language Study Abroad is awarded to undergraduate students who are committed to developing advanced language proficiency.

  • Francesca Hendricks, a senior triple majoring in linguistics, Spanish, and international studies, and a member of the honors program, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the CIEE Seville Liberal Arts program in Spain.
  • Josephine Martin, a junior majoring in public health with a minor in chemistry, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the Academic Year in Freiburg program in Germany.


The Stanley Merit-Based Scholarship is a competitive, merit-based scholarship designed for undergraduate students who will study abroad.

  • Ricky Cavaliere, a sophomore double majoring in linguistics (TESL) and Spanish, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the Wells in Florence: Lorenzo de Medici program in Italy.
  • Kinsey Coomes, a sophomore double majoring in cinema and global health studies with a minor in chemistry, on the pre-medicine track, and a member of the honors program, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the TEAN Australia: Bond University program.
  • Dominic Dupoux, a sophomore majoring in human physiology with a minor in business administration and on the pre-physical therapy track, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the USAC Studies in Pau program in France.
  • Dorothy Hankey, a junior majoring in political science, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the Academic Year in Freiburg program in Germany.
  • Abigail Pint, a sophomore majoring in English & creative writing with a minor in Spanish and a member of the honors program, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the American College of Thessaloniki program in Greece.
  • Taylor Schmuecker, a junior majoring in theatre arts with a minor in music, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the USAC Alicante program in Spain.
  • Zoe Sexton, a junior majoring in industrial engineering, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the USAC Studies in the Czech Republic program.
  • Ella Sirna, a sophomore double majoring in psychology and criminology, law & justice with a minor in Spanish, will study abroad in fall 2025 through the Iowa Regents Ireland: University College Cork program.
  • Riley Babel, a first-year student double majoring in political science and international relations, and on a pre-law track, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the American College of Thessaloniki program in Greece.
  • Anna Besler, a junior triple majoring in linguistics (TESL), German, and international relations; with minors in Spanish and international studies; and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.
  • Bridget Blanchard, a junior majoring in criminology, law and justice with a minor in Korean studies, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.
  • Kendall Deutmeyer, a senior double majoring in art and Asian languages & literature, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the IES Internships Dublin program in Ireland.
  • Ashley Kushner, a junior majoring in English & creative writing with a minor in Spanish and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the CIEE Seville Language and Culture program in Spain.
  • Mallory Mueller, a senior triple majoring in international studies, French, and translation; with a minor in Spanish; and a member of the honors program, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the CEA Florence: SRISA program in Italy.
  • Terra Richardson, a sophomore double majoring in journalism & mass communication and English & creative writing with a minor in Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the CIEE Seville Language and Culture program in Spain.
  • Kiersten Sheeder, a junior majoring in art and Asian languages & literature, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the USAC Lüneburg program in Germany.
  • Rylie Ulett, a sophomore double majoring in cinema and Spanish, is studying abroad in summer 2025 through the Iowa Hispanic Institute program in Spain.

 


International Programs (IP) at the University of Iowa (UI) is committed to enriching the global experience of UI students, faculty, staff, and the general public by leading efforts to promote internationally oriented teaching, research, creative work, and community engagement.  IP provides support for international students and scholars, administers scholarships and assistance for students who study, intern, or do research abroad, and provides funding opportunities and grant-writing assistance for faculty engaged in international research. IP shares their stories through various media, and by hosting multiple public engagement activities each year.
