The event highlights diverse cultures through live performances, food, and interactive activities hosted by student organizations and university departments. An international studies major from Colombia, María José Blanco Arias first experienced Iowa as a child living in Davenport. Years later, those memories helped guide her university search.

The UI awarded dozens of merit-based scholarships for students studying abroad during the 2024–2025 academic year, supporting programs in countries like South Korea, Spain, Italy, and more. These scholarships promote global learning and help students build intercultural and language skills.

Duong (Jun) Le, a recent UI graduate from Vietnam, has been awarded the 2025 Peace, Charlie One World Scholarship. As she begins her master’s in piano pedagogy at Iowa, Le continues her mission to promote intercultural understanding through the unifying power of music.

Gabby Kang, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) peer assistant, received a Tom Rocklin Meet the Challenge Award, and Shuhui Lin, ISSS international education program and student affairs advisor, received the Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award.

The celebration drew a crowd of students, faculty, and staff, all gathered to recognize the achievements and contributions of the university’s global community.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the University of Iowa's Center for Asian and Pacific Studies and International Programs during a virtual event featuring video messages from students and alumni, panel discussions with faculty, and insights into cultural traditions from across Asia.

During the 2023-24 academic year, international students studying at the University of Iowa contributed $73.6 million to the economy and supported 594 jobs.
