Virtual workshops launch the 2027–2028 Fulbright U.S. Student Program competition at Iowa
Thursday, March 12, 2026

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, offers recent graduates and young professionals the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and pursue graduate studies abroad. International Programs at the University of Iowa will kick off the 2027–2028 competition during the 13th Annual Fulbright Week at Iowa, April 6–10, 2026.

Every day, International Programs will host a new session, and each session will give students the opportunity to learn new information followed by a Q&A period. Students are encouraged to attend as many sessions as they can to get the most out of the week. All levels of undergraduate and graduate students are welcome! Sessions will be held via Zoom - pre-registration is required for each session separately.

In 2026, the University of Iowa was recognized as a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Top Producing Institution for the 10th year, with 18 UI students selected as Fulbright awardees for 2025–26 and one of the highest applicant-to-awardee success rates nationally, underscoring the strength of Iowa’s global scholarship record and support system for applicants.

“The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent bachelor’s graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, young professionals, and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience,” said Karen Wachsmuth, associate director of international fellowships, International Programs. “Projects may include English teaching assistantships, independent research, creative/artistic projects, university coursework or degree programs, or training in a music conservatory or art school.”
