Open to juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni, the workshop aims to support UI students and alumni in securing this prestigious award, with past UI recipients recognized globally for their contributions.

Upcoming events include workshops on the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), Boren Awards, and Stanley Awards for International Research, offering guidance on applications, funding, and essay writing.

Out of thousands of applicants nationwide, 9 University of Iowa (UI) students—eight of whom are Iowa natives—have been awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 to support study or internship experiences abroad.

Katie Mathew (BA English & creative writing ’24) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award (ETA) to Germany for 2025-26.

Maddie Cason (BS political science, BA economics ’25) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Germany for 2025-26.

Isabel Rushton (BA global health studies ’24) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Slovakia for 2025-26. Rushton is the first UI recipient of a Fulbright to Slovakia.

Hser Dir Mu, (BS human physiology ’25) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Thailand for 2025-26. 

Emily Callahan (BA political science, journalism & mass communication ’22) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Montenegro for 2025–26.

Andy Stewart (BS psychology ‘24, BA German ’24) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Taiwan for 2025–26. 

Alice Cruse (BA journalism & mass communication ’25) is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to Taiwan for 2025–26.
