Four students from the University of Iowa have been granted a prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Staff will introduce you to the Gilman, coach you on how to fill out the application, and let you know what scholarship reviewers are looking for in an applicant. 

"Would I truly be accepted by this program, these new people, this new country? The answer I found, very quickly after my arrival in France, was yes. A resounding, whole hearted yes."

This guide serves as a one stop shop to showcase the many funding opportunities that exist to financially assist and support University of Iowa undergraduate students considering studying abroad.

The Global Access Ambassador Scholarship program provides scholarships for students to study abroad.

"By the end of the trip, I no longer felt like I was an outsider in my program at Iowa as someone who was older and who had transferred in from a community college."

Three decades ago, Melissa Ferrin (BA political science and Spanish ’95) participated in a study abroad program in Chile as a language learner. She currently teaches English at a small engineering school in Mexico called Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM).

"I studied abroad in Vienna, Austria, interning for a medical training fitness gym through IES Abroad. Living in Vienna for the summer allowed me to see how different the lifestyle of the community was compared to what I am used to in the United States."
