University of Iowa graduate student in journalism and mass communication Abby Rinaldi, a native of Tampa, Florida, has been awarded a 2019 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).
UI student Angel Trachta awarded Critical Language Scholarship to South Korea

University of Iowa international studies major Angel Trachta, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been awarded a 2019 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). This summer, Trachta will travel to Gwangju, South Korea and will study advanced Korean at the Chonnam National University.

Sylvia Dean, who will receive a BA in Linguistics/TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Taiwan for 2019-20.

University of Iowa Chinese language and literature and accounting major Alex Duff of Volga, Iowa, has been awarded a 2018 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). Duff will head to China this summer for an intensive language and cultural immersion program at the College of Humanities & Sciences of Northeast Normal University in Changchun.
