Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan

As posted on the website:

"AATJ and the Bridging Foundation have been carefully monitoring the situation in Japan, and also at US colleges and universities, related to study abroad. Although the border to Japan remains closed in August 2021 to international visitors, including students and scholars, we anticipate that by the end of 2021 it will again be possible for students to obtain visas and travel to study programs at Japanese institutions. We, therefore, are opening up applications to students who have been accepted and plan to study in Japan during the Spring 2022 term.

"The deadline to submit an application for a one-semester scholarship is October 16, 2021.

"Applicants for Fall 2021 and academic year 2021-22 scholarships who have deferred their study in Japan to begin in the Spring 2022 semester: Please let us know, by October 16, that you would like the application you submitted for a Fall 2021 scholarship considered. We will hold your application and consider you for a Spring 2022 one-semester scholarship."

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations, through donations to the nonprofit US-Japan Bridging Foundation, makes it possible to award about 100 scholarships each year to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice each year for Bridging Scholarships.
