There are various scholarships/grants available to students participating in CIEE programs. All information, eligibility details, and deadlines are available on the CIEE website, “Scholarships and Grants”.

GAIN Travel Grant 

The GAIN Travel Grant provides high need students with funding toward the airfare portion of your CIEE program. When CIEE notifies recipients of the grant, instructions will be provided how this grant will be awarded.

Gilman Go Global Grant 

CIEE applicants who submit the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship application (regardless of award status) are eligible to receive the Gilman Go Global Grant.

Frederick Douglass - Daniel O'Connell Global Interns in Dublin

CIEE Frederick Douglass - Daniel O'Connell Global Internship in Ireland, established in 2015 – developed for high achieving students, honoring the legacy of Frederick Douglass; emphasis on leadership, social justice, agitation for positive change, and cross-cultural understanding.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident
  • Current full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate [freshman, sophomore, junior] in good academic standing
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Federal Pell Grant eligibility
  • Submit completed application by published deadline (typically early January)

Requirements

  • Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member or administrator at your institution
  • Copy of most recent transcript
  • Personal video (complete your video submission early, as it is a critical component of the selection process)

Award Details

  • Ten (10) Fellows will be selected to participate in an eight-week, 6-credit CIEE study abroad program in Dublin, Ireland, typically June through August (dates provided when application opens), fully funded program costs and air travel
  • If you’re not selected for the program, all eligible applicants receive a $1,500 Douglass-O'Connell Scholars Grant that they may use for any CIEE summer or semester program (typically through the following year summer session, i.e., 2026 application, use during or before summer 2027)
  • Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will be selected based on their demonstrated interest in gaining practical work experience in Ireland; their desire to emulate the business acumen and social justice reform of Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell; their values in equality, entrepreneurship, and advocacy; and their commitment to pursuing a better, more inclusive world.
  • During the program, Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns commit to completing all required academic coursework, fully immersing themselves in their Irish work placement, attending all activities, and actively engaging with instructors and peers throughout the program. 
  • After the program, Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns commit to sharing their international internship experience with their campus community to promote the power of international education and encourage peers to study or intern abroad.
