Chosen from thousands of applicants nationwide, five students from the University of Iowa have been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study critical languages during the summer of 2021:

Sarah Day, who received an MA in rehabilitation and counselor education from the University of Iowa in 2018, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Montenegro for 2021-22, which selects only 2 awardees

Dilon Gonçalves, who received a BA in journalism & mass communication from the University of Iowa in 2019, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Estonia for 2021-22, which selects only 2 awardees

University of Iowa biomedical science student Aastha Chandra of Cedar Falls, Iowa, has been awarded a 2021 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) for a summer virtual intensive language and cultural program in Hindi.

Julia Conrad, who will receive an M.F.A. in literary translation from the University of Iowa in May 2021, is the winner of a Fulbright Arts/Creative Writing award to Italy for 2021-22

Sarah Schlosser, who will receive an M.F.A in book studies from the University of Iowa in May 2021, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in Book Arts to India for 2021-22

Brant Walker, who will receive a B.S. in mathematics and economics from the University of Iowa in May 2021, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in economics to Germany for 2021-22

Kathleen Maris Paltrineri, who will receive an MFA in literary translation from the University of Iowa in May 2021, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in Translation to Norway for 2021-22

Margaret Cooper, a JD candidate at the University of Iowa Law School, earned a 2021 David L. Boren Fellowship and will spend next year studying Arabic in Jordan. 

Katarina Newcamp, who will receive a BA in political science from the University of Iowa in May 2021, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Kosovo for 2021-22
