Internationally recognized occupational medicine specialist Dr. Vanessa Govender will visit the University of Iowa to deliver a Grand Rounds presentation to Internal Medicine in the UI Carver College of Medicine, as well as a series of three talks, all of which discuss occupational lung disease, worker health, and global lessons from South Africa’s mining industry.

Hosted by the Iowa Global Health Network, an International Programs affinity group, the events will bring together students, faculty, and community members to explore how global health challenges inform research, policy, and practice across disciplines.

“Dr. Govender’s visit provides a valuable opportunity to connect global health research with real-world challenges that affect workers and communities everywhere,” said Claudia Corwin, clinical associate professor of internal medicine – pulmonary, critical care, and occupational medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine of the UI Carver College of Medicine, and director of the Iowa Global Health Network. “Her experience brings an important international perspective to conversations happening across public health, medicine, and community engagement at Iowa.”

During her multi-day visit, Dr. Govender will give four lectures. The final event, in partnership with the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, is open to the public.
