The South Asian Studies Program, Department of Anthropology, and Department of Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies present "Coming of Age in Macholand: Media, Masculinity and Transnationality in Northern India," a talk by Dr. Harjant Gill, that will take place virtually from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, April 6.  Dr. Gill will present his latest research, which includes multimodal approaches and the use of ethnographic film and video to explore gender relations, popular culture, and transnationality in contemporary North Indian society.

Harjant Gill is an associate professor of anthropology at Towson University. His research examines the intersections of masculinity, modernity, transnational migration, and popular culture in India. Gill is also an award-winning filmmaker and has made several ethnographic films that have screened at international film festivals and on television channels worldwide including BBC, Doordarshan (Indian National TV), and PBS. Gill is the recipient of the Point Foundation Scholarship, Fulbright-Nehru Research Fellowship, American Institute of Indian Studies Performing Arts Fellowship, the Institute for Citizens & Scholars' Career Enhancement Fellowship, and the Whiting Foundation Public Engagement Fellowship. Gill is currently developing an eight-part immersive virtual reality web series on Indian masculinity titled “Tales from Macholand.”
