The University of Iowa has been designated a Fulbright U.S. Student Top Producer for the second year in a row.

The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, in cooperation with the Institute of International Education, are pleased to announce the launch of the 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Student Program application cycle.

Since 1946, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program has provided future American leaders with an unparalleled opportunity to study, conduct research and serve as English teaching assistants abroad in order to build relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards over 1,900 grants annually and currently operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.

In addition to hundreds of traditional study and research grants, the Fulbright U .S. Student Program offers more than 1,000 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship awards to over 70 countries. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program has also recently launched innovative new program models. The Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship provides opportunities for overseas travel and digital storytelling in up to three countries on globally significant themes. The J. William Fulbright-Hillary Rodham Clinton Public Policy Fellowship allows U.S. public policy early career professionals and Ph.D. students to serve as special assistants in foreign government ministries or institutions.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program selects participants through a competitive, merit-based application process, and offers several benefits during the period of the grant. These include funding for round-trip travel, living expenses for one academic year, and healthcare benefits.

Applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program must be U.S. citizens and hold a bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) by the beginning of the grant period.  Individuals may be, but are not required to be, currently enrolled in a college or university in order to apply.  Early career professionals in a range of fields, including artists, are eligible and encouraged to apply.
