Hello prospective study abroad students!

Studying abroad in Australia was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived in Cairns, a tropical paradise filled with greenery, warm ocean breezes, and amazing wildlife, I knew I would have the trip of a lifetime. One of the key highlights of my time there was visiting the Great Barrier Reef and snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs. I did the same at Fitzroy Island and every moment felt like a dream come true.

After soaking in Cairns’s beauty, we traveled to Sydney, where urban life blends seamlessly with breathtaking scenery. I explored iconic sites like the Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, and Manly Beach. What I loved most about Australia was its balance between adventure and relaxation. The people were friendly and welcoming, making it easy to adapt. I admired their laid-back lifestyle and strong emphasis on outdoor activities.

"Academically, I found the course work to be both engaging and manageable."

The classes encouraged discussion with an exciting approach and made the material more interesting. The professor was incredibly supportive. Balancing schoolwork while exploring Australia was easier than I expected, and I appreciated the flexibility that allowed me to make the most of my time abroad.

Going abroad with no one I knew challenged me to be independent and adaptable. While I initially expected nonstop excitement, I also faced moments of homesickness and the need to adjust to a different atmosphere. However, these experiences helped me build resilience and appreciate the growth that comes from stepping outside my comfort zone and making lifelong friends. One unique aspect of my experience was seeing how my American identity was perceived abroad, locals were curious about life in the U.S., leading to insightful cultural exchanges. As a marketing student, I also found it intriguing to observe differences in branding and consumer behavior between Australia and the U.S.

For future study abroad students, my biggest advice is to embrace every opportunity. Whether it’s trying new foods, impulsively going into the ocean, or exploring new neighborhoods, keep an open mind. If you’re a first-time international traveler, plan ahead, but leave room for spontaneity, you’ll gain confidence and independence in the process. Most importantly, take time to reflect on your journey. Studying abroad isn’t just about travel; it’s about personal growth and discovering what truly excites you.
