The Iowa Global Health Network (IGHN), an International Programs affinity group, is set to bring together students and faculty to showcase the research collaborations happening at the University of Iowa. On Friday, October 4, 2024, from 1:30 – 3 p.m. (CDT) in the International Commons, University Capitol Centre room 1117, students and their faculty mentors will present their work in the global health realm and will discuss their working collaboration and research focus. Light refreshments will be served.
“This research spotlight will highlight some of the transformative work performed by our faculty and students,” shared Claudia Corwin, clinical associate professor of internal medicine-pulmonary, critical care and occupational medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine of the UI Carver College of Medicine, and director of the Iowa Global Health Network. “Come listen to several faculty-student research teams as they describe their collaborations and present their impactful global health research.”
Faculty and student presentations include:
- Stepping Up: Building Leadership in Sexual and Reproductive Health Through Global Collaboration, presented by Dr. William T. Story, associate professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health in the UI College of Public Health, and graduate student Abigail A. Lee
- Increasing Capacity for Injury Research in Eastern Europe (iCREATE): Student Perspectives from Injury and Violence Prevention Summer School in Romania presented by Dr. Cara Hamann, associate professor of epidemiology in the UI College of Public Health, and graduate students Stephanie Jansson and Emily Jester
“Our interdisciplinary membership draws from a wealth of experience and expertise that can inform research and practice related to global health,” said Corwin. “IGHN provides a platform for nurturing scholarly cross-sector relationships among staff and faculty, while deconstructing academic silos. IGHN aspires to champion transformative work that brings together a diverse group of members and disciplines - to support a healthier world through research, education, community engagement, and global partnerships.”
