Press release from the City of Iowa City: February 22, 2021

Night of 1000 Dinners, a virtual community celebration of International Women's Day, will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, via Zoom. The event is hosted by the Johnson County Chapter of the United Nations Association and 21 co-sponsoring organizations.

International Women's Day honors the achievements and contributions of women worldwide. The Johnson County celebration will recognize three local organizations founded by, led by, and/or serving women who are advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The groups to be honored are the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, Houses into Homes, and Sankofa Outreach Connection.

About the virtual event

The program will feature performances or readings by the Oakdale Community Choir, the International Academy of Russian Music, Arts, and Culture, an Afghani novelist in the UI International Writing Program, and a dance performance by Iowa Andhi.

Recognizing the mounting food insecurity caused by the pandemic, proceeds from the event will be donated to the UN World Food Programme, CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank, the Coralville Community Food Pantry, and the North Liberty Community Pantry.
