With the award of a Global Research Partnership grant, the University of Iowa Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) department plan to partner with doctors in Ethiopia to form a program to promote global women’s health.

Chris Orabutt traveled to South Korea two months ago to teach middle school English as part of the Fulbright program.

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a middle and high school based program in which teams of students design, build, and program robots. Under the direction of Rebecca Whitaker, the University of Iowa College of Engineering has been the Affiliate Partner organization for FIRST Tech Challenge since 2009. Through this partnership, the Iowa program has become known across the world as a leader with FIRST Tech Challenge. Due to the successes of FIRST Tech Challenge in Iowa through hosting large tournaments, Whitaker was invited to attend the FTC Championship in Bucharest, Romania. Her travel was funded, in part, by International Programs and the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization. Whitaker's reflections from her March 2018 trip to Bucharest are below.

University of Iowa Chinese language and literature and accounting major Alex Duff of Volga, Iowa, has been awarded a 2018 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). Duff will head to China this summer for an intensive language and cultural immersion program at the College of Humanities & Sciences of Northeast Normal University in Changchun. 

The University of Iowa has again been named a top producer of Fulbright students—this time for 2017–18, with 16 recipients—marking the third consecutive year the university achieved the elite ranking.

University of Iowa student Shane Weitzman spent the summer studying Hindi in Jaipur, India as an awardee of the 2017 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship.

International Programs will host a Boren Awards and Critical Language Scholarship information session on Wednesday, October 18, from 5-7 p.m. in 1100 University Capitol Centre. The Fulbright Lunch & Learn seminar series continues with "Why the Japanese School Year Begins During Cherry Blossom Season: A Glimpse into 21st-Century Japanese Education," featuring guest speaker Karen Wachsmuth, associate director, International Fellowships, International Programs. This event will take place Friday, April 7, from 12:15-1:00 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre.

The University of Iowa has once again been named a top producer of Fulbright students for 2016-17, according to the list released Monday in The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is the second  year in a row that the University of Iowa has achieved this elite ranking.
