Jorrell Watkins, who will receive an MFA in creative writing and poetry from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research Arts grant in Creative Writing to Japan for 2020-21

Chosen from thousands of applicants from colleges and universities across the U.S., University of Iowa undergraduate Tartil Ali has been awarded the competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to study abroad this summer.

The University of Iowa is thrilled to announce that Anita Jung, assistant professor in the School of Art and Art History at the University of Iowa, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar to India for the 2020-21 academic year.

The UI has reached its fifth consecutive year of being named a top producer of Fulbright students and scholars by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The University of Iowa has again been named a top producer of Fulbright students for 2019–20 (with a record number of 19 recipients), marking the fifth consecutive year the university achieved the elite ranking.

The Fulbright Lunch & Learn Spring Seminar Series continues with "A Medievalist in Iceland: Or, Why Fulbrights Are Good for Faculty in All Fields," featuring speaker Karen Wachsmuth, University of Iowa Fulbright Program advisor and scholar liaison. This event will take place Thursday, February 27, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre.

The Fulbright Lunch & Learn Spring Seminar Series kicks off with "​​​​​​​Taiwan: A Beautiful Island for a Flourishing Fulbright Program," featuring speaker Karen Wachsmuth, University of Iowa Fulbright Program advisor and scholar liaison. This event will take place Wednesday, February 12, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre.

Staff will introduce you to the Gilman, coach you on how to fill out the application, and will give you insight as to what the scholarship reviewers are looking for in an applicant.

Would you like to teach English, study, or do research abroad for an academic year at no cost? Join International Programs for the seventh-annual intensive Fulbright U.S. Student Program workshop on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Big Ten Theater (Room 348 in the Iowa Memorial Union).

In June, Ted Neal, associate professor of science education and former wildlife camp instructor, travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, to present his research on informal learning environments and immersive inquiry. Neal received funding to pursue international education from the University of Iowa’s International Travel Award. The grant supports international travel for research, creative activity, and active participation from university tenured, tenure-track, clinical, or research faculty members looking to travel internationally.

International Programs will host information sessions regarding the Stanley Awards for International Research. The Stanley Undergraduate and Graduate Awards for International Research are given annually to outstanding University of Iowa students for the pursuit of learning activities in international studies and international research/fieldwork.
