University of Iowa hosted the Mandela Washington Fellows in Iowa City for a ninth year, as part of a U.S. Department of State initiative that brings young African leaders to the United States for academic and leadership training.

University of Iowa student and Korean department ambassador Arieanna Grage, who grew up in rural Iowa, has been awarded the competitive Freeman-ASIA Award to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, as part of her Korean studies minor.

The Anne Frank Initiative and Clear Creek Amana Middle School collaborated for the third year in a row to teach 200+ eighth graders about Anne Frank's story through virtual reality, writing and identity, resistance, the power of reading, and visiting the Anne Frank sapling on the Pentacrest.
