Faculty Research Award
The Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS) is pleased to invite applications from all tenured, tenure-track, and instructional-track UI faculty members engaged in research on East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region. Awards will not exceed $3,000 and are competitive. Recipients are encouraged to supplement their awards with funds from other sources. Funds will be available immediately upon notification of award and should be used before June 30 unless prior approval is obtained.

Guidelines
- Competition is open to tenured and tenure-track faculty members at the University of Iowa, whose research primarily focuses on the cultures, societies, and institutions of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region.
- Funds are to be used for research-related expenses other than for travel to conferences and faculty salary.
- Applicants whose proposed budget includes international travel expenses must also submit a proposal for International Travel funds to the UI International Travel Grant Committee. Obtain an award application from International Program's Grants Department.
- Faculty are eligible for no more than one CAPS award per academic year.
- Faculty members who have received start-up money from CAPS must use this funding before they may become eligible for CAPS research awards.
- Faculty who receive CAPS research awards are encouraged to make a presentation at a CAPS research seminar.
- The maximum award is $3,000. The award does not allow funding of faculty and graduate assistant salaries.
Application Process
Complete the online application form. You will need to have the following to complete the form:
- Proposal of approximately 750 words describing the purposes and intellectual rationale of the research project
- Current curriculum vitae
- One page budget, including other sources of funding, if applicable
Faculty Conference Travel Award
The Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS) accepts applications for awards to travel to and give presentations at both domestic and international conferences from UI faculty members engaged in research on East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region. Awards will not exceed $800 for traveling to conferences domestically (including Canada) and $1,200 for traveling to conferences internationally. Applicants are are encouraged to supplement their awards with funds from other sources.
