EducationUSA visiting Kinnick Stadium
The delegation visiting Kinnick Stadium

Earlier this summer, a group of EducationUSA advisors from 11 advising centers around the world visited the University of Iowa (UI) as part of a visit organized by StudyIowa, a non-profit consortium that promotes educational institutions in the state of Iowa.

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 430 advising centers in more than 175 countries and territories, promoting U.S. higher education to international students by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the U.S. The recent EducationUSA delegation to Iowa included advisors from China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Venezuela.

“A most diverse group of visitors just toured the University of Iowa campus!” exclaimed Becky Hanson, associate director of international outreach and recruitment in UI Admissions. “This StudyIowa and EducationUSA collaboration was a huge success towards helping students around the globe find their ‘best fit’ right here in the Midwest.”

“As one of the largest state universities in the country, visiting the University of Iowa was an eye-opening experience. Their emphasis on 'how big can become small' is truly remarkable.”

Following their arrival on campus on July 16, the EducationUSA advisors embarked on a campus walking tour which included a visit to Kinnick Stadium. Additionally, they attended sessions offered by the Between the Lines Summer Program and the UI College of Engineering.

“It’s always a pleasure to meet with visiting delegations of EducationUSA advisors. These connections allow us to showcase the University of Iowa and attract new international students to the UI,” said Russ Ganim, associate provost and dean of UI International Programs, who met with the delegation over dinner. Ganim shared with the advisors the resources and support Iowa provides to international students.

“As one of the largest state universities in the country, visiting the University of Iowa was an eye-opening experience," said Tracie Chen, an EducationUSA advisor from Taiwan, who provides counseling and guidance to students interested in applying to U.S. colleges and universities and connects them with relevant resources and opportunities. "Their emphasis on 'how big can become small' is truly remarkable.”
