Award: 2019-20 Fulbright Research Award in Public Health to Romania
Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health

What drew you to this field of study?

During my time in Romania in 2017, I learned about different challenges faced by pharmacists in Romania as it relates to public health and the evolution of their role in society. This inspired me to identify ways in which pharmacists can help improve the health of populations; specifically, how to care for patients living with HIV/AIDS in the most culturally appropriate way.

How do you envision this will influence your future career?

I envision myself engaging with diverse populations as an infectious disease pharmacist. I believe this experience will provide me with new and exciting opportunities which will be of great value to me as I continue to pursue pharmacy practice and research training after graduation.

What advice do you have for future students interested in applying for a Fulbright?

Go for it! I found this process to be very rewarding and got to learn more about myself. Be prepared to be as communicative as possible, as it will be very important — even the littlest of things.

Are there individuals you'd like to thank for their investment in this process?

I am thankful for all of the support and guidance Dr. Jeanine Abrons has provided me in this process. I am also thankful that Dr. Brandi Janssen and Jill Welch recommended me for this great opportunity. I would also like to thank Dr. Karen Wachsmuth and the rest of the support group at the University of Iowa that encouraged and helped students prepare for the Fulbright application process.
