The Caribbean, Diaspora, and Atlantic Studies Program will continue their spring 2015 lecture series with a performance talk by UI International Writer's Program alumna Fabienne Kanor entitled, "Another Sea to Cross: A Performance Talk." The performance talk will take place on Wednesday, April 29, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in 2520D University Capitol Centre, and is free and open to the public.

This month, the University of Iowa will host experts and researchers from around the world as part of the 2015 Provost’s Global Forum, “The Arab Spring in a Global Context.” Scholars from a variety of academic disciplines will examine a range of issues including social change and justice, racial/ethnic and gender relations, law, public policy, media, and economic development in the context of the Arab Spring. This four-day, multi-event conference will take place Tuesday, April 28, through Friday, May 1.

The European Studies Group will continue its spring 2015 lecture series on Friday, April 24 at 12:30 p.m. in 2520B University Capitol Centre with a lecture by Jennifer Sessions entitled, “Monumental Struggles for Decolonization: Colonial Statutes, Iconoclasm, and Preservation during the Algerian War.”

The Latin American Studies Program (LASP) will conclude its two-part spring speaker series with a talk entitled, “Latinos, INC. in Social Media: Univisión and the Dynamics of Mass Connected Hispanic Media" by Sean Gelles of Univisión TV network.

This year marks the tenth year of exchanges between the University of Iowa and China Daily, China's largest English-language newspaper. In honor of this long-standing collaboration, International Programs and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication will hold a tenth anniversary celebration on Friday, April 24 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the Adler Journalism Building rotunda.

On March 10, 2015, the African Studies Program, a constituent program of University of Iowa International Programs, hosted a reception for musicians of The Nile Project. The Nile Project is a collective of musicians from the eleven countries through which the Nile River flows in Eastern and North Eastern Africa.

The 13th Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival will take place April 10-11, 2015 in 105 Adler Building. The festival, presented by undergraduates in the UI Cinema Department, features documentaries from both Iowans and national and international filmmakers. The students aim to showcase different documenting styles and methods, questioning what it means to make a documentary.

In a Global Health Studies Program sponsored lecture, Marcos Cueto will speak about the World Health Organization and international global health efforts with a special emphasis on the Africa Regional Office in a talk titled, "Between Tropical Medicine and International Health."

The European Studies Group will present a guest lecture by Sheryl Kroen of the University of Florida on "Narrating the Postwar with Robinson Crusoe" at 12:30 p.m. on April 1, 2015, in Room 1117 University Capitol Centre. The event is free and open to the public and a light lunch will be provided.

The South Asian Studies Program (SASP) will continue its spring 2015 seminar series with a lecture by David Mason titled "Performative Suspension: The Limits of Liminality." The event is free and open to the public and will be held Monday, April 13, at 4:30 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre. Chai and samosas will be served.

Over the past 60 years the Fulbright Program has facilitated the travel of nearly 350,000 students and young professionals for cultural and academic exchange. On April 3, 2015, the University of Iowa will host its first annual Fulbright Day to celebrate past UI Fulbright faculty and student awardees and to provide prospective students the opportunity to learn more about the Fulbright process.
