With demanding course loads and tightly sequenced requirements, studying abroad can seem out of reach for many STEMM majors. But a recent event hosted by University of Iowa Study Abroad showed otherwise.

The $3,000 Summer Research Fellowship helps faculty carry out projects that are expected to result in at least one publication, exhibit, or performance. For many recipients, the fellowship proves to be a catalyst for far more.

This summer, three University of Iowa students stepped far outside their comfort zones to complete internships abroad, gaining professional experience while immersing themselves in new cultures.
