A generous gift from Cathy Zaharis (BBA finance ’82) established the Leona Zaharis Scholarship Fund, a scholarship created in honor of Cathy's mother to support students who, like Leona, are curious about the world and want to study abroad.

The Second Floor Ballroom in the IMU will be renamed the International Ballroom to reflect this commitment to its values along with a permanent display of flags installed in the ballroom that represent the international students and scholars that attend the University of Iowa.

Christian Frankl studied abroad in Edinburg, Scotland in spring 2022. He also successfully auditioned to become drum major of the UI Hawkeye Marching Band, prepping for his audition while abroad.
