Purpose

Through the generous support of the E & M Charities Asian and Pacific fund, CAPS Faculty Research Awards provide funding for UI faculty members engaged in research on East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region. Awards will not exceed $3,000 and are competitive. Recipients are encouraged to supplement their awards with funds from other sources.

Eligibility

Open to tenured and tenure-track faculty members at the University of Iowa, whose research primarily focuses on the cultures, societies, and institutions of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Must include research on East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region.
  • Applicants whose proposed budget includes international travel expenses must also submit an application for an International Travel Award.
  • Faculty who receive CAPS research awards are encouraged to make a presentation at a CAPS research seminar.

Application Process

Complete the online application form. You will need to have the following to complete the form:

  • Proposal of approximately 750 words describing the purposes and intellectual rationale of the research project
  • Current curriculum vitae (2-page maximum)
  • One page budget, including other sources of funding, if applicable
