AFI Internship Opportunities 2025-2026

The Anne Frank Initiative at the University of Iowa seeks three (3) student interns for the 2025-2026 academic year. Student interns may be undergraduate or graduate students concentrating in any discipline.

The Anne Frank Initiative (AFI) commits to highlighting Anne Frank’s literary contributions, her ongoing legacy, and all that she represents in a globalized, international, and contemporary context. The AFI creates opportunities for research, pedagogy, and artistic output that strive for advocacy. Events and activities will serve as transformative moments for our campus, Iowa, and the greater community.

Anne Frank Initiative Intern Search

Three interns needed: fall 2025, spring 2026, and 2025-26 full academic year:

  • One (1) intern will serve during the fall 2025 semester. 
  • One (1) intern will serve during the spring 2026 semester. 
  • One (1) intern will serve for the full 2025-2026 academic year.

This internship is unpaid and involves no more than 20 hours of work per month. This internship offers opportunities to earn experiential learning credit.

This internship provides the opportunity to engage with UI faculty and staff in a variety of disciplines and get hands-on experience planning and executing large-scale events and outreach projects. Interns will build empathy, compassion, and resilience as members of a collaborative organization dedicated to exploring the lived impact of Anne Frank’s story and those like it.

Interns will serve a crucial role in the vision, development, and execution of the AFI’s programs and events. In addition to attending monthly AFI Advisory Committee meetings, interns will collaborate with Advisory Committee members on long-term projects, including but not limited to:

  • Youth education and outreach programs
  • Addressing local issues for immigrants and refugees
  • The AFI’s World Storytelling Project
  • Innovating new projects within the scope of AFI’s mission
  • Developing the AFI’s outward-facing communications (social media, etc.)
  • Projects involving the Anne Frank Tree on the Pentacrest
