University of Iowa's King Sejong Institute invites you to attend The Sejong Talks on Wednesday, October 24, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre, with a lecture entitled "Korea in the World," delivered by Dr. Hyaeweol Choi, the C. Maxwell and Elizabeth M. Stanley Family and Korea Foundation Chair in Korean Studies.

The last seventy years have seen the Korean peninsula transformed from the ravages of war in the 1950s to the economic and cultural vibrancy that have marked South Korea and the nuclear ambitions that have marked North Korea. This presentation will focus on key features of Korean history and culture to come to some understanding of the significance of Korea from a regional and global perspective. In doing that we will highlight a number of topics, including, K-pop and film, religion, the economy, gender relations, cuisine, politics, and prospects for reunification.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
