The “Peace, Charlie One World Scholarship”
(Formerly the Charles Day One World Peace Scholarship)
Funding for the Peace, Charlie One World Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of Dr. Charles W. Day, a retired clinical psychologist and consultant who was raised in Iowa. Dr. Day earned three degrees from the University of Iowa (B.A., 1960; M.A., 1962; Ph.D., 1964) and worked in California, Iowa, and Asia. In 1986, Dr. Day moved to India and spent five years teaching psychotherapy and counseling skills to health professionals and teachers. He also spent three years in Thailand as a Visiting Professor in Psychology and returned to Des Moines in 1994. Dr. Day's international experiences solidified his desire to help deserving international students study in the United States and, by doing so, contribute to world peace. The stated purpose of the Peace, Charlie One World Scholarship Fund is "to promote world peace, understanding, compassion, and harmony among different ethnic and cultural groups through higher education."
