December 8, 2022 | 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

On this WorldCanvass, we explored the long and storied history of translation at the University of Iowa and learned how a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education is helping students, educators, and community members across Iowa build translation and global literacy skills.  The grant establishes the UI as a national resource for translation and global literacy and is not only a feather in the cap for the UI but a game-changer for those working throughout our state to reduce linguistic and cultural barriers between people. Our guests reflected on the history and current environment for translation at Iowa as well as the concept of global literacy which is intertwined with language study and cultural fluency in an interconnected world.

Location: MERGE, 136 South Dubuque St., Iowa City, IA

Free and open to the public.
