The Global Access Ambassador Scholarship program provides awards to study abroad for a summer, winter, semester, or academic year program. The scholarships are intended to support students who study abroad with the intent to serve as Global Access Ambassadors upon return to the UI campus.

Please read the sections below before filling out the application.

University of Iowa students who are planning to study abroad and who have a history of overcoming adversity and/or have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad programs are encouraged to apply for a Global Access Ambassador Scholarship. Recipients of the Global Access Ambassador Scholarship who apply for other awards may receive need-based grants or merit-based scholarships concurrently.

If there are any special considerations, concerns or barriers to your participation in study abroad that you would like us to be aware of or help you address, please do not hesitate to discuss these with your study abroad advisor. You may also contact our office regarding adversity-related issues via e-mail: study-abroad@uiowa.edu.

Being a Global Access Ambassador is an opportunity to inspire other students to go abroad and challenge them to rethink how study abroad experiences can be for everyone, Upon their return, recipients are asked to write an open letter to prospective students and provide 2-5 photos for the website.

Study Abroad hosts student panels and information sessions throughout the year and anticipates that you will share your experiences by participating in one of our events. Additionally, Global Access Ambassadors are strongly encouraged to share their experiences with Study Abroad and prospective students by engaging with our social media pages, blogging from abroad, and/or submitting photos/video to use in promotional materials.

The Global Access Ambassador Scholarship application deadlines are listed on the Study Abroad website.

Applications will be reviewed by a Scholarship Committee and processed through Study Abroad in UI International Programs. All applicants will be notified of results via email at the conclusion of the process, several weeks after the application deadline.
