Immigration Orientations are scheduled two times each month. You will receive the date of your session during your required ISSS check-in. You are required to attend an orientation session on J-1 immigration issues. Until you have attended this session, your check-in process at the University of Iowa is not complete.

What to Bring to Orientation Check-in

  • Your passport
  • Your DS-2019
  • Form I-94 (the small white card you completed when you entered the United States)
  • A pen or pencil

You must be present for the entire session, so please be sure to arrive a few minutes before the scheduled start time. If you arrive late you may be required to return for a later program. Your host faculty member is invited to attend this session with you, and if you wish to bring someone to translate you are welcome to do so.

If you cannot attend your scheduled immigration orientation session, you must contact International Student and Scholar Services (319-335-0335) before your program. We will reschedule you for the next session. If you fail to attend an Immigration Orientation Session, you will not have met all the requirements for participating in the University of Iowa’s Exchange Visitor Program, and your program may be terminated early.

If you have questions, call International Student and Scholar Services at 319-335-0335.
