Study Abroad typically hires a student to serve as a Study Abroad Assistant at the beginning of every academic year. The job description, responsibilities, qualifications, and terms of appointment can be found below.

Study Abroad Assistant

The Study Abroad Assistant provides information about study abroad programs and procedures to UI undergraduate students via email and Zoom advising and presents about study abroad opportunities to students, staff, and faculty around the UI campus.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop extensive knowledge of UI Study Abroad programs across various geographic regions and academic concentrations
  • Host open advising hours weekly via Zoom and in person to assist students with program research and answer basic questions
  • Respond to emails from interested students and register students for synchronous Discover Study Abroad sessions
  • Assist professional advisors with administrative tasks
  • Promote study abroad through classroom visits, student organization presentations, and tabling sessions
  • Plan, implement, and participate in events that highlight study abroad opportunities 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate status at the UI
  • Previous participation in a study abroad program
  • Graduation in May 2024 or later
  • Desire to promote study abroad and advocate for international education
  • Interest in promotion and social events
  • Willingness to learn new technology
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Independent, adaptable, and self-motivated
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working or volunteering with diverse campus constituents

Hours

The Study Abroad Assistant can expect to work 15 hours per week while school is in session. The position will have in-office work hours and will be required to attend events as needed during the day and occasionally in the evening and/or on weekends.
