University of Iowa (UI) students, scholars, and community members spending fall break in Iowa City are invited to come together for a traditional holiday meal at the annual Beverly Brandau Fall Break Meal. Hosted by International Programs, this Life in Iowa event will take place Monday, November 23, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Brick, 26 E. Market St., Iowa City.
The meal offers an opportunity for UI students and scholars to connect with friends, family, and members of the greater Iowa City community during fall break. Attendees can enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, and pie, with vegetarian options also available.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to register in advance. Registration opening soon.
“Food plays a unique role in bringing people together, and sharing this meal with the local community will help international students to learn about local traditions, share experiences and build community,” said Shuhui Lin, international education program and student affairs advisor in International Student and Scholar Services. “These moments of exchange are especially meaningful for students and help build relationships that make Iowa City feel more like home.”
Sponsored by International Programs and the Office of the Dean of Students, this event is also made possible, in part, due to the generosity of UI alumna Beverly Brandau (BA ‘48), whose endowment seeks to support programs that directly facilitate interactions between international students and the community.
