UI student Nicholas Grandstaff had an unlikely journey to earning a Fulbright, but with this scholarship he will be heading to the Netherlands.

A record 17 University of Iowa students have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to conduct research, attend graduate school, undertake creative projects, or serve as English teaching assistants abroad in 2019–20, with an additional four students selected as alternates.

Nicholas Grandstaff, who will receive a BBA in economics from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a 2019-20 Fulbright Study/Research Award to Netherlands for a graduate degree 

Alexa Frank, who will receive an MFA in creative writing from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Research Award to Japan for 2019-20

Charles Green, who will receive an MFA in playwriting from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Arts grant in Creative Writing/Playwriting to Germany for 2019-20

Jennifer Shyue, who will receive an MFA in literary translation from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in Translation to Peru for 2019-20

Isabella Myers, who will receive an MFA in book arts from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Arts grant in Bookmaking/Design to Cambodia for 2019-20

Jill Oberhart, who will receive a BA in music and psychology from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Brazil for 2019-20

Brittany Anderson, a PhD candidate in anthropology at the University of Iowa, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research in Anthropology to Sierra Leone for 2019-20.

Erik Ovrom, who will receive a BA in interdepartmental studies (health science track) from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Mexico for 2019-20

Dani Lipman, who will receive a BS in physics and astronomy from the University of Iowa this May, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research Award in Education to China for 2019-20
