The University of Iowa is thrilled to announce that Jon Wilcox, a professor of English at the University of Iowa, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar to Iceland for the 2019-20 academic year, where he'll be teaching two courses at the University of Iceland, and researching Viking culture.

Mercedes Bern-Klug was awarded a Fulbright grant to the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. As a gerontology specialist, she will be teaching a class on global aging, and will also study and assist in the development of social services in Mexico.

An Iowa City native’s journey through skateboarding and music led to a path in medicine and a Fulbright Grant.

Jill Oberhart, a UI Fulbright scholar, will touch down in Brazil in November, where she plans to start a children’s choir.

Nicole Hehr, who received a BA in ancient civilization from the University of Iowa in May 2019, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Italy for 2019-20

Maria Bascom, who received a BA in Russian from the University of Iowa in May 2019, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Russia for 2019-20.

UI student Nicholas Grandstaff had an unlikely journey to earning a Fulbright, but with this scholarship he will be heading to the Netherlands.

Anger Dok, who will receive a BA in global health studies from the University of Iowa this May, earned a 2019 David L. Boren Scholarship. Born in South Sudan and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Anger will spend next year studying Swahili in Tanzania. 

Eli Bratsch-Prince of Ames, Iowa, earned a 2019 David L. Boren Scholarship. A political science major at the UI, Bratsch-Prince will spend next year studying Arabic in Jordan.

Yanni Liang, a PhD candidate in occupational and environmental health at the University of Iowa, earned a 2019 David L. Boren Fellowship, and will spend next year studying Khmer in Cambodia.
