Today marks one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and experts from across the Midwest are gathering in Iowa City tonight for a panel discussion about the war and what may be next for that region — and for the world.

Christopher Harris, Janaína Oliveira, and Cristiane Lira, organizers of the 2022-23 Obermann Humanities Symposium and International Programs Major Projects Award, talk about what makes this multi-day event unique.

Through panel discussions, interventions, film screenings, and artists’ performances, the symposium aims to incite, inspire, and engage the audience in response to the films, performances and theorizations of Afro-Brazilian film, history, and culture.

Lisa Heineman, co-director of the Jewish Studies Network, discussed her course "Jews, Judaism, and Social Justice" in a recent roundtable in the Association for Jewish Studies Perspectives.

Three global health researchers from the University of Iowa will present their work and its relevance to the global sphere.

CLAS professor Hyaeweol Choi elected to serve as vice president for the international non-profit Association of Asian Studies. Choi will officially be seated following the organization’s annual conference in March of 2023.
