A new major in global health studies is now available to undergraduates after long efforts by campus faculty.

Interdisciplinary BA or BS major examines global health and healthcare and their social determinants on an international scale

The South Asian Studies and Global Health Studies Programs will host a seminar featuring Professor Susan Heydon of the University of Otago in New Zealand. This event is free and open to the public, and will take place on Thursday, November 19, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in 1117 UCC.

The 2015 Global Health Conference, "Contagion: causes, costs, containment," will be held from Nov. 6-8, at the University of Iowa. Registration tables open at 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. The conference acts as a course for students to earn credit and engage with a range of speakers featured from on and off campus.

The UI Center for Human Rights and the Iowa Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility will host a screening of the documentary film "Sandy 2012," followed by a panel discussion"Remembering Hurricane Sandy: What We Have Learned, Where Are We Headed" at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29 in room 140 of Schaeffer Hall.

It will not be pills or insulin that will cure these people, it is a strict lifestyle change to a proper diet. I plan on spreading this knowledge to as many people as I can in the hopes that they give themselves a chance at being healthy and happy individuals and getting their life back from the grips of diabetes.

In a Global Health Studies Program sponsored lecture, Marcos Cueto will speak about the World Health Organization and international global health efforts with a special emphasis on the Africa Regional Office in a talk titled, "Between Tropical Medicine and International Health."
