Critical Language Scholarship winner to study in Russia

Joining the list of University of Iowa study-abroad programs suspended because of coronavirus concerns are a number of Italy programs.

University of Iowa officials said Wednesday any change in delivery method of instruction would occur in coordination with public entities. They emphasized they're confident risk is low in Iowa.

Studying abroad is an amazing privilege; make sure you know what you want to learn from it.

Even though no cases of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus have yet to be reported in Iowa, the university has canceled study abroad programs to countries heavily impacted by the virus.

Chosen from thousands of applicants from colleges and universities across the U.S., University of Iowa undergraduate Tartil Ali has been awarded the competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to study abroad this summer.

UI students who have recently returned from a study abroad experience were invited to a Study Abroad After Party on February 13. “The event is a celebration of students who are returning from studying abroad. We want to, in some way, recognize them and honor them for their achievement of studying abroad,” said host Kristine Djerf, senior study abroad advisor and program coordinator.

Tartil Ali is thankful for the role models in her life, and the University of Iowa student looks to pay their contributions forward through her work on campus, in the community, and in a future health care career.
