The University of Iowa is committed to increasing the number of undergraduate students who study/conduct research abroad. UI students are encouraged to step through doors opened by the university to the larger world, to experience other cultures directly.

There are a number of Study Abroad scholarships available to students planning to participate in Summer, Winter, or select Short-Term programs. The awards available are shown in the menu under the Summer/Winter/Short-Term heading. There are different categories of awards including financial need-based grants, Diversity Ambassador scholarships, and program specific awards. Each of the pages in this category will provide the pertinent information necessary to determine if you are an eligible candidate for that award. It is important to review all the criteria listed before beginning your application packet (including, but not limited to):

  • Overview of each award
  • Eligibility requirements
  • Selection process
  • Application procedure
  • Submission deadline

Applicants for scholarships should review all requirements necessary prior to submission of applications, including eligibility, required components, deadlines. Any incomplete applications or attempted submissions after the published deadlines will not be accepted. Email notification of award status for scholarships, awarded by Study Abroad in UI International Programs, will occur after the published deadline has passed. Please allow at least ten (10) business days for email notification. Awards listed as Other UI Awards or External Awards are not administered by Study Abroad in UI International Programs, so notification will be provided by other means.

Additional information is available on the respective pages.

It is the student's responsibility to search for scholarships, meet requirements and deadlines; Study Abroad advisors can answer questions regarding funding opportunities and scholarships options.
