SIT Virtual Courses

Overview

SIT programs are developed within a framework of the most critical global issues of our time-challenges that transcend borders to touch every human on the planet. By framing their programs around these issues, they believe that as the next generation of leaders, you will have the expertise and intercultural understanding to engage all identities and perspectives to develop respectful, enduring, and meaningful responses to these challenges.

Eligibility

  • 2.5 GPA or higher 
  • In good academic and disciplinary standing at the University of Iowa
  • Students must meet the pre-requisites (if any) of the program in which they intend to participate. Review each program and its pre-requisites on the SIT Website.  

Credit

You will receive transfer credit which will be calculated into their transfer GPA and therefore will affect your overall University of Iowa GPA.

Language Offerings

  • Jordan: Arabic Language (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced)
  • Madagascar: French Language for Health Sciences (Intermediate & Advanced | Online)
  • Nepal: Intensive Nepali Language (Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced)
  • Nepal: Intensive Tibetan Language (Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced)
  • Peru: Quechua Language
  • Senegal: Wolof Language (Beginning & Intermediate)
  • Tanzania: Swahili Language for Health Sciences (Intermediate & Advanced | Online)

Cost/Funding

SIT course fees: online course (3 s.h.) - $1,080

University of Iowa fees: for online course - $400 Study Abroad Administrative Fee

Billing: You will pay for SIT course fees and University of Iowa fees though your U-Bill.

Scholarships: You can apply for the Need Based Grants through the Study Abroad office. 

Application Process for virtual coursework with SIT

  1. Call 319-335-0353 to schedule a Zoom meeting with UI Study Abroad Advisor Ryan Ourada. Full application instructions will be provided during this meeting.
  2. Receive email from Ryan Ourada with link to complete UI Study Abroad program application. 
  3. Complete the SIT Application 
  4. Once completed, scan and email page six (6) of the application to Ryan Ourada (ryan-ourada@uiowa.edu) for Approval of Participation. 
  5. Monitor email for an acceptance email from SIT.
  6. Confirmation of participation in online courses will be required
